Troy Sikes

Associate Pastor

Troy has had the joy of serving at BFBC since December 1998. At that time, he came to Brenham to lead our Student Ministry. After three years as the Minister to Students, Troy transitioned into his present position of Associate Pastor.

Troy is a native Texan who grew up in Houston. Growing up in a single-parent family, he was taught a good moral foundation, but without a personal relationship with Christ. At the age of seventeen, he accepted Jesus as his Lord. During his early college days at the University of Houston, Troy sensed that God was leading him to work in the church, as a vocation. After a lot of internal spiritual struggle, he surrendered to God's call as a minister. He was ordained to the ministry in 1986 and graduated from the University of Houston. The following year, he enrolled in the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1992, Troy graduated from seminary with a Masters of Arts in Religious Education.

Along Troy's pilgrimage, he has been blessed to have a loving wife, Kelley, to walk beside him. In addition, God has blessed them with two beautiful daughters, Jamie and Jillian. They have served in three previous churches, two in Houston and one in Lubbock. The Sikes family loves it here in "Blue Bell" Country and prays that God leaves them here a good long time

Minister of Music

Jay, a native of Oklahoma, has served on staff at First Baptist Church since March 2004. Jay and his beautiful wife Jana, love living in Brenham with their two precious daughters, Jaycee and Jenna. They love serving the people of First Baptist Church, working with the church staff, and working with the outstanding Worship Choir, Praise Team, Handbell Choir, Children's Choir, instrumentalists and the entire FBC Worship and Music Ministry.

Some of Jay's musical background includes performing with the Bison Glee Club of OBU, the Consort Singers and Men's Chorus of SWBTS, the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma and in 1986 he was a finalist for the Midwest Regional Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions. Jay is also a percussionist and drummer and has performed with such notable Christian artists as Dennis Jernigan, Steven Curtis Chapman and Joel Engle.

Jay loves to write about worship and some of his writings have been published in the Ultimate Idea Book for Music Ministry and Worship Leader Magazine. His hobbies include being a handyman around the house and being a fan of the 13 time world champion Green Bay Packers.

Life Verse: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9.

Alex Morrison

Children's Minister

Alex Morrison is a simple man. Born in a small hospital (USC University Hospital) in a small coastal town (Los Angeles) too many years ago to count, he brought a simple joy to his parents, Ernest and Victoria Morrison. They lived there for about a year until rudely being uprooted to the metropolis of Springfield, Missouri. It was in this city that his two younger sisters, Holly and Dawn joined his family. It was also in this city that Alex, at the age of eight, accepted the Lordship of Jesus Christ over his life, and allowed Jesus to forgive him of his sins.

At the young age of nine his family made the long journey to Texas. They settled in a rural city outside of Houston called Conroe. Alex graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1991, and attended The University of Texas in Austin for his first step in his college career. His next step was to the bustling Kingwood campus of North Harris Montgomery County College. From there he continued his education at Austin College in Sherman, Texas (Not Austin Community College). Prior to his trek to AC, God placed a call upon Alex's life.
In the spring of 1992, after recovering from a three-week battle with appendicitis, Alex chose to argue with God about his going into the ministry. December 20, 1992 God won the fight when Alex surrendered his life to follow God's design for him in the ministry. Alex began serving bi-vocationally at the First Baptist Church of Groceville.

In 1995, during a sabbatical from his college career, Alex met and fell in love with the woman with whom he would spend the rest of his life. After being married in 1996, Nicole and Alex have been blessed with three super sons (Joshua, Matthew & Timothy) and one Dyn-O-Mite (said like Jimmie Walker as "J.J. Evans" in Good Times) daughter (Mariah). In 2000, Alex went back to college at Dallas Baptist University where he would finally achieve his Bachelor of Arts & Sciences degree in Christian Studies in December of 2001. Alex has since pursued his post graduate studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth (and is currently on another sabbatical).

Over the years Alex has worked in many different fields (veterinary medicine, human medicine, finance, residential group care & community after-school care). However, he is now serving vocationally in the area that is his heart's calling - ministry. He is currently the Servant to Children (and their families) at Brenham's First Baptist Church where he loves finding out what great things God has around the corner and writing biographies about himself.

Nancy Fritz

Administrator of the Church School

Nancy Fritz is the wife of James Fritz and has two adult children. Amanda is married to Rex Threatt. They live in Brenham and have blessed the Fritz family with the addition of two grandchildren. Kayla is pursuing her graduate degree in psychology/counseling.

Nancy has been employed with the church school since her completion of her college degree. She was first a teacher for sixteen years and has been the school administrator for several years.

Nancy believes in putting God first, her family second, and her job third. Nancy enjoys spending time with her family. She has fun creating all kinds of surprises for them. She says, "I find joy in making others happy - especially with a surprise."

Nancy has several favorite Bible verses. Regarding children, one in particular that is fond to her, first as a teacher, and secondly as a mother, (because that is the order that children were placed in her life) is Proverbs 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Her personal ministry philosophy is based on 2 Timothy 2:24-25 - "And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth."
