To help our members grow into full devoted followers, we have developed an educational process entitled "The Journey." Here, we explain and guide you through The Journey process. As we do so, remember that we are asking our people to go and grow through a process, not a program. The process doesn't guarantee spiritual growth...only God can grow us. The Journey is a visual representation of stages in Christian development and core courses that we are asking our members to complete over a four year period.

Four Stages of Spiritual Development:

Explorer
Seeking to understand more about a relationship with God.

At this stage, a person may have attended one of our programs, worship services, or ministry events and be curious about church membership or the Christian faith.

Follower
Developing the habits of Christian living.

At this stage, a person has received Christ and is trying to grow in a relationship with Him, by developing the habits of Christian living.

Servant
Giving back to the glory of God and for the good of others.

At this stage of development, the believer is seeking to discover their spiritual gifts to use them in meeting the needs of others. They are not satisfied with sitting in church. They want to serve.

Guide
Ministry leaders developing others along the growth process.

At this stage, this person is growing in the daily habits of discipleship, ministering to others by using their unique giftedness, and are committed to leading others along the growth process.

Core Journey Courses:

To help people develop spiritually through these developmental stages, we provide seven core courses that are designed to bring growth, discovery, and life change.

The first course on The Journey, "Starting Point," is designed for those who are exploring Christianity, faith, or church membership. We offer the four-week Starting Point class many times throughout the year.

The six other courses are offered at various times throughout the year, mainly on Wednesday nights through our "L.I.F.T. University" from 6:00p.m.-7:10p.m. Within two year of joining our church, a member can complete all seven classes.

We encourage everyone to complete the courses within four years. It is not a requirement for each member to complete The Journey, but working through the classes brings growth. Below are our core Journey courses and a brief description of each:

Starting Point: An initial course about God, Jesus, Salvation, Lord's Supper, Baptism, and Brenham's First Baptist Church.

Foundations: An eight-week course outlining the principles of growing in Christ-likeness and the disciplines of the faith.

Experiencing God: A thirteen-week course on "Knowing and Doing the Will of God." You will discover the seven realities of following God.

Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts: Each believer in Christ is gifted by God for ministry. You will use assessment tools to discover or confirm your gifts.

Share Jesus Without Fear: A four-week course designed to teach any believer how to guide someone through the path of salvation...without fear.

Disciplines of a Godly Man: Understanding your role as a man who walks with God. What is asked of you as a man, husband, father, or friend?

Virtuous Woman: Understanding your role as a woman who walks with God. What is asked of you as a woman, wife, mother, or friend?

Spiritual Leadership: Jesus is the perfect model of leadership. This course looks at the calling, character and competency of leaders.

The Journey is a process...it is not a program. It is a path to walk. It is a road of discovery and change. When Jesus walked the earth, He asked the disciples to "follow" Him and He would make them "fishers of men." If we are going to really grow, it will be because we are MADE by God in a process of walking with Him. This is what The Journey is all about...walking with Jesus and letting Him make you.
