Senior Pastor, Steve Ponder...
Former businessman, Steve Ponder, made a commitment to vocational ministry
Easter Sunday, 1985. Sensing that God was calling him to preach, this
Baylor University graduate attended and earned a Master of Divinity degree
at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Steve has pastored three churches—two in Texas and one in Oklahoma. He
has been the pastor of Brenham’s First Baptist Church since 1991. Under
his leadership our church has grown substantially.
He is married to his lovely wife Celia and they have three children:
Kelli and her husband Chris, Jeff, and Keri. Pastor Ponder loves Brenham
and he loves to teach the Word of God. His greatest passion is to see
people place their faith in Jesus Christ and then begin the wonderful
journey of Christian discipleship.
Associate Pastor, Troy Sikes...
Troy has had the joy of serving at BFBC since December
1998. At that time, he came to Brenham to lead our Student Ministry. After
three years as the Minister to Students, Troy transitioned into his
present position of Associate Pastor. As such, he is involved in
performing pastoral duties along side Steve Ponder, our Senior Pastor.
Troy is a native Texan who grew up in Houston. Growing
up in a single-parent family, he was taught a good moral foundation, but
without a personal relationship with Christ. At the age of seventeen, he
accepted Jesus as his Lord. During his early college days at the
University of Houston, Troy sensed that God was leading him to work in the
church, as a vocation. After a lot of internal spiritual struggle, Troy
Sikes surrendered to His purpose for his vocational future as a minister.
He was ordained to the ministry in 1986 and graduated from the University
of Houston. The following year, he enrolled in the Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary. In 1992, Troy graduated from seminary with a Masters
of Arts in Religious Education.
Along Troy's pilgrimage, he has been blessed to have a
loving wife, Kelley, to walk beside him. In addition, God has blessed them
with two beautiful daughters, Jamie and Jillian. They have served in three
previous churches, two in Houston and one in Lubbock. The Sikes family loves it here in
"Blue Bell" Country and prays that God leaves them here a good long time.
